This video was literally inspired by dresses. I spied some vintage dresses (online) that looked like they were fun and interesting and then a seed of an idea grew as to what I could do with them. Then along came the perfect shoot with the perfect models to wear them and the result was this. Also, this would just not have worked so well without Kat’s just perfect performance – she totally nails it as the antagonist in this. It couldn’t have been more perfect. I was not sure how this would turn out, but it turned out just awesome. And I initially didn’t even think of doing this in black and white – someone suggested it as we were shooting. At first, when I started editing it, I wondered if I should just do this in color. Then I was thinking I would do a color version and a black and white version, so people could chose what they would want to watch. Then, as it came together in black and white, I just loved how it looked and ultimately made an artistic decision to do black and white only. Really, if anyone wants to see any of these models in color, there are plenty of other videos with them in them. This one is something special.
I must admit, I am quite satisfied with how this turned out. I don’t think it would have worked nearly as well in color. And it just seemed cheap to do a colorized version of it. Like it was an affront to art or something. The only disappointing thing really is that the vibrant colors of the dresses can’t be discerned in the video. But that is ok, since I can still show you what those lovely vintage dresses looked like in color:
As always, I welcome input, suggestions, or just shoot the shit. It is all good. It still amazes me so few comment, especially since you can do so anonymously. My door is always open.
